OUR STORY

Lucan, in Granite Rock Township, Redwood County, was platted in January 1902 and incorporated March 29, 1904. Lucan was either named for a village in Ireland or for one of the railroad surveyors name Lou Kartak. When another surveyor was asked if he could think of a name for the town site, he replied, "No, but maybe Lou can".
